Bob Smith's Birthday Walk, 18 miles, Tuesday 6th August 2013, Route: (view, download), Photographs
Meet/Start time : 08:00. At: , SN982203
Description: Tuesday 6th August was Bob Smith's 76th birthday and to celebrate this event several members of the group joined Bob for a walk in the less frequented area to the west of the Storey Arms. Following the steep climb up Fan Fawr the group made it's way to Fan Gyhirych via Fan llia, Fan Nedd and Fan Fraith. Following recent heavy rainfall, conditions underfoot were extremely wet, however the day itself was perfect for the occasion and the high cloud of the morning made way to a beautiful, sunny afternoon. The total distance was 18 miles with 5500ft of ascent. As a special treat Bob led the group through several bogs, swollen rivers and even followed a recognizable path for a short distance. The day was rounded off perfectly by a visit to the Nant Ddu Lodge for refreshments and, of course, a birthday cake for Bob.
