Report & Results of the 2019 event
This was the last ever Offa’s Twisted Wye Kanter and it was also (we believe) the first ever LDWA Members’ Only event. It was a trial on behalf of the National Executive Committee as last year the event was oversubscribed and many members were unable to enter. 12% of the entrants joined the LDWA and immediately afterwards entered the event so if nothing else, the event encouraged people to join the LDWA and hopefully they will remain as members and get involved with LDWA activities. The new members were not limited geographically to the South Wales area and Cornwall & Devon and Heart of England areas benefited too.
The event can only take place because volunteers give up their time to ensure that others have a great day out. One of the reasons that this is the last ever kanter is because of the footpath closures (at short notice) that take place to enable forestry work to take place. This meant that in December, volunteers had to walk new paths, identify new clues, write new route descriptions and record new GPX files. Then other volunteers had to go and test the new routes to see that they were fit for purpose. The following volunteers worked hard either before the event and/or during it and I cannot thank them enough for their efforts and dedication.
Rob Richardson | Jill Richardson | Gill Morgan | Alan Warrington |
Simon Pickering | Claire Murray | Grae Yeandle | Ferne Davies |
Judith Fox | Rod Hollands | Angela Williams | Andrew Clabon |
The South Wales LDWA has just announced a new challenge walk concept and the first of three specific events will take place on 5th October 2019. It is called “Three Circles of Crickhowell / Tri Cylch o Crughywel”. Entries will be open very soon via SI Entries.

I did the event, it was fabulous.
Great walk today, great weather too, mighty relieved it wasn’t yesterday. Very remiss of me to leave without thanking you and the team for the enormous amount of work that must have gone in to that. Very appreciative of that.
Thanks for such a lovely day out yesterday we all had a really good time.
Thanks for Sunday. We had a very nice time and, although a bit chilly at times, the weather was rather good for January.
I’d just like to thank all the organisers and helpers of the Offa’s Twisted Wye Kanter 3 on Sunday. They really helped me very feel welcome. It was my first LDWA event which I’m extremely pleased with. Overall a lovely walk.
I would just like to say a BIG heartfelt thank you on behalf of our group to Dave and his team for organising possibly the prettiest route of all three TWKs (haha, apart from all those calves in that very very muddy field!) The organisation was, as always, first class and we really felt for you (and us!) with the ‘out of order’ problems in the Centre. We are all very sad the event is no longer going to take place but we understand how problematic it has been to run and quite honoured to have been able to take part in each one. You have also given us a reason to come down and walk the Wye Valley at other times, you have beautiful countryside! We are all in the HofE LDWA area, so maybe will see some South Wales LDWA people at the Malvern challenge event in June. Thanks again from Karen, Di, Kate, Caroline, Mary & Debbie.
Just wanted to say thank you again for such a lovely event. Really appreciate all the work that was put in particularly at short notice.
Thank you for a lovely muddy, hilly walk yesterday and thank you for ordering the sunshine.
My thanks to all the team involved in putting on the Kanter. Both Steve and myself really enjoyed the day. Another great event from South Wales LDWA.
Thank-you to David Morgan and all our committee and other volunteers who helped make Sunday’s South Wales LDWA event so enjoyable.
Thanks to the South Wales committee and team of helpers on the OWTK for all your hard work. Fantastic day out around the Wye valley on a great course with beautiful sunshine! Great to see so many visitors and friends from the LDWA family on the event.
