Valleys 100 Section 6 - Abercynon to Gelligaer
Section 6 of The Valleys Hundred provides a real contrast of terrain to be covered as it follows three seperate cycle tracks and then agricultural land as it arrives in the hilltop village of Gelligaer.
The night section remains fast as two disused railway tracks are followed. The first established cycle route is the Taff Trail. It is numbered as National Route 8 and forms part of that route that provides a journey from North Wales down through Mid Wales to the south. The route only remains on this cycle route for a short period. The route then joins a disused railway line that is delightful. It has remained untouched by modern development and its short grass path is a pleasure to walk on. The third cycle track is now part of National Route 47 and it is followed for just under a mile before the Rhymney Valley Ridgeway is joined and followed across fields to arrive at St. Catwg’s Church Hall in Gelligaer.
